About a week ago, 200 legionnaires invaded Britain in Gosport, Hampshire (opposite Portsmouth). These legionnaires were a part of the French troops, comprising more than 500 men, participated in a military training exercise.

On March 10, 2013, the French Foreign Legion will celebrate the 182nd anniversary of its creation. Following the suggestion of Minister of War (Ministre secrétaire d’État au département de la Guerre) Jean-de-Dieu Soult of March 9, King Louis Philippe presented a new royal ordinance in Paris on March 10, 1831, in which he ordered establishment of the Foreign Legion.

Harold Vormezeele – a military funeral video
A military funeral for Harold Vormezeele, a legionnaire of the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) of the French Foreign Legion killed in Mali, took place in the National Residence of the Invalids (Les Invalides), Paris, on February 22.
Water course in the 1er REG
A few images of a water course (Stage nautique) in the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) of the French Foreign Legion. The 1er REG is specialized as the regiment engineer-amphibian. Because of its specialization, all new legionnaires arriving to the regiment have to pass the water course.

Yesterday, on 19th February 2013, the French Ministry of Defence announced that the second French soldier was killed in action in Mali. It was sergent-chef Harold Vormezeele, a non-commissioned officer of the commandos of the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment.

The French Army have launched a few new images of the French Foreign Legion operating in Mali. We can see the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) with the Malian soldiers in Gao, Mali. The 1st REC is observing the entrance of the strategic bridge over the river Niger and the main road to Gao.
