GRLE: 2025 Support Mission to IILE
In late June 2025, as part of the Solidarité short-term mission, legionnaires from the Foreign Legion Recruiting Group (GRLE) provided assistance to the Foreign Legion Institution for Disabled Veterans (IILE) in Puyloubier, southern France.
Foreign Legion: 2025 FSALE Congress
Between June 13 and 15, 2025, the French town of Castelnaudary, garrison of the 4th Foreign Regiment (4e RE), became the heart of the Foreign Legion family, as it hosted the national congress of the Federation of Foreign Legion Veterans’ Associations (Fédération des Sociétés d’Anciens de la Légion Etrangère, FSALE). 1er REG: 2025 Exercise Terra Nostra
Between March 17 and 28, 2025, the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) conducted Terra Nostra, a major open-terrain military exercise across the Gard department. Led by Colonel Rémy Chabaud, the regiment’s commanding officer, the exercise engaged nearly 500 soldiers, over 100 military vehicles, and a fleet of river boats in a complex, multi-phase scenario. The Foreign Legion’s YouTube channel recently published a video dedicated to this operation.
13e DBLE: 3e CIE in New Caledonia in 2025
The 3rd Company of the 13th Foreign Legion Demi-Brigade (13e DBLE) has been deployed in New Caledonia, a French overseas territory in the South Pacific, since March 2025. The Short-Term Mission (Mission de Courte Durée, MCD), which usually lasts four months, focuses on maintaining order and security in the region. The company has temporarily reinforced the New Caledonia Pacific Marine Infantry Regiment (RIMaP-NC).
70 years ago: A large center for Foreign Legion disabled veterans was completed
In May 1955, a large semicircular building in southern France, containing 200 beds and modern medical and support facilities, was completed and inaugurated. It opened to wounded legionnaires as a center for their professional and social reintegration. As the Legion’s needs evolved after the 1950s, the institution adapted to new challenges, housing older, often solitary individuals facing personal hardships.

2e REP: Exercise Libecciu 2025
In May 2025, the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) carried out “LIBECCIU 2025” – a major military exercise across Corsica, from the Balagne region to Bonifacio. This demanding two-week training operation was designed to prepare French Foreign Legion paratroopers for the most challenging combat scenarios.
