1976 Djibouti helicopter crash: 41st Anniversary
41 years ago, on May 24, 1976, the second deadliest accident for the Legion in its post-1962 modern history occurred. During a military exercise in the then French Territory of the Afars and the Issas (today’s Djibouti), a country located in the Horn of Africa, a French Army helicopter crashed. Eight men on board were killed, including six legionnaires from the GOLE (Foreign Legion Operational Group)…
2e REI: Two legionnaires died in France
On May 19, 2017, two legionnaires from 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI) died during a team-building exercise on the River Marne near Cumières, a town in northeastern France. The legionnaires drowned after being caught by the strong stream of the barrage built on the river.

13e DBLE: First French Army regiment to receive Heckler & Koch rifle
The 13th Demi-Brigade of the Foreign Legion (13e DBLE) of the French Foreign Legion will be the first French Army regiment to receive the German Heckler & Koch HK416F rifle. The rifle would replace the outdated FAMAS.
