French firemen applauding the legionnaires in Paris
On July 14, 2014, the French firemen (sapeurs-pompiers) of the Northern Defence and Security Zone (Zone de défense et de sécurité Nord) of northern France, participating for the first time in the Bastille Day Parade, met the legionnaires in a street of Paris and cheered them with a “standing ovation”.

2e REI: Infernal Run
Last month, in June 2014, the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI) of the French Foreign Legion organized the first year of a 9 km (6 miles) long run with several obstacles, the Infernal Run. More than 600 legionnaires, mainly from 2e REI, participated in. However, as being said, Infernal Run is open to legionnaires from all regiments across the Legion. The run continues in the regiment’s traditional Cross Country run, taking place on El Mungar Day (the 2e REI’s legendary battle anniversary) of September 2.
1er REG: Legionnaire killed in Mali
On July 14, 2014, French Foreign Legion legionnaire Dejvid Nikolic, of Serbian origin, was killed during Operation Serval in the Al Moustarat region of northern Mali. Member of the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG), he became the third legionnaire who has been killed in this African country since 2013, after SCH Harold Vormezeele and SGT Marcel Kalafut.
Foreign Legion: Bastille Day Military Parade 2014
On July 14, the Bastille Day Military Parade (Défilé militaire du 14 Juillet) passed down the Champs-Elysées, Paris. As always, the Foreign Legion took part in the parade. See the legionnaires from the Foreign Legion Music Band and the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG), accompanied by the Foreign Legion Pioneers, marching together down the street in front of the French president.
2e REP and US Paratroopers in Corsica

1er REC: The last parade before leaving Orange
On July 9, 2014, the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) of the Foreign Legion organized the last parade in Orange, its garrison since 1967, just before leaving it. The last parade took place in the streets of Orange to say the last goodbye to the public. The regiment was placed in the Carpiagne military camp near Marseille, on July 11. Second Saharan motorized unit of the Legion
Learn about the 2nd Legion Saharan Motorized Company (2e CSPL), an autonomous motorized infantry unit of the French Foreign Legion serving in the Algerian Sahara between the 1940s and 1960s. Very little known today, equipped with Dodges WC 4×4 and 6×6, and also by AMM8 Greyhound armored cars, it became a Saharan rapid reaction force during the Algerian War.
