1er Régiment Étranger de Génie, 1er REG. One of the two combat engineer regiments of the French Foreign Legion. The 1er REG has been stationed in the Quartier Général Rollet, located at Laudun, Southern France, since its creation in 1984 (at the time as the 6e REG). The regiment provides combat engineering support for Legion units and French Army regular units.
The 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment draws its lineage, attributes and traditions from the 6th Foreign Infantry Regiment, a unit organized in Syria in 1939 and disbanded in Tunisia in 1955.
The 1er REG served in Chad (1987), the Gulf War (1990-91), Afghanistan (as the first Legion unit to be deployed there), Mali (2013-15), Central African Republic (2014-2020s) and took part in other military operations.
