Since September 11, 2017, legionnaires from the 3rd Foreign Infantry Regiment (3e REI), the Foreign Legion’s regiment based in French Guiana, have participated in rescue operations on the island of Saint Martin, in the Caribbean Sea, damaged by Hurricane Irma.
85th anniversary: The worst accident in the Foreign Legion’s history
In Algeria (North Africa), 85 years ago, the worst accident in the history of the French Foreign Legion occurred. On September 14, 1932, a troop train was heading for Morocco, carrying a Legion battalion ready for fighting. In the afternoon, the train had derailed and fell into a ravine. Tens of legionnaires were killed, two hundreds of legionnaires were wounded.

2017 El Moungar Day: 2e REI to commemorate the 114th anniversary of the battle
Tomorrow, on September 2, the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI) will commemorate the 114th anniversary of the 1903 Battle of El Moungar, in which 113 men of the regiment fought against Moroccan Berbers close to the Sahara of western Algeria. The date of the event has become the regimental holiday, El Moungar Day.

4e RE: 5 killed legionnaires in August 2000
17 years ago, on August 16, 2000, a ceremony took place inside the barracks of the 4th Foreign Regiment (4e RE), the training unit of the French Foreign Legion, to render homage and to say the last goodbye to legionnaires killed in an accident during their basic training.
2e REI + 1er REG: Mission Lynx in Estonia
Detachments from the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI) and 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) were sent to Estonia to participate in Mission Lynx.
