Every year, the French Foreign Legion commemorates the anniversary of the Battle of Camerone, the most famous event in its history. Also in 2016, on April 30, Camerone Day, the officers, NCOs and legionnaires of the Foreign Legion commemorated the 153rd Anniversary of the battle. 1er RE: Exercice Vaillant 2015
On November 2, the French Foreign Legion’s headquarters, the 1st Foreign Regiment (1er RE), carried out its November’s traditional short-term military exercise called Vaillant. It took place in Pourcieux (a small village in the Provence region in southeastern France) and lasted two days.
1er REC: Solidarity with the Disabled Veterans
A month ago, legionnaires from the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) came to offer a helping hand to the Foreign Legion’s Disabled Veterans Institution of Puyloubier, southern France. Every year, a group of active legionnaires from one of the regiments based in France is participating on grape harvesting in vineyards belonging to the Institution.
Foreign Legion: Bastille Day Military Parade 2015
On July 14, France celebrated Bastille Day 2015 with a military parade in Paris. The French troops, including the French Foreign Legion, marched down the Champs-Elysées. The Legion was represented by the Foreign Legion Pioneers, accompanied by the Foreign Legion Music Band and the legionnaires from the 3rd Comapny of the 3rd Foreign Infantry Regiment (3e REI). The 3e REI was participating in the parade for the first time since it has been placed in French Guiana.
Camerone Day 2015
On 30 April 2015, the French Foreign Legion commemorated the 152nd anniversary of the Battle of Camerone. This day is known as Camerone Day (Camerone), the most important day for the Legion and its legionnaires. See the videos from 1er RE, 2e REI and 2e REG.
New Home of Legionnaire in Auriol
A new building for the Home of Legionnaire (La Maison du légionnaire) was built in Auriol. The new building was named after Roux de Bezieux, a former legionnaire and a main donor. An inaugural ceremony took place on March 31, 2015.
1er RE: Foreign Legion 1944-1945 Exhibition
The Foreign Legion Museum will organize a temporary exhibition called The Legion during the Victory (La Légion dans la Victoire). The exhibition is dedicated to the legionnaires and Foreign Legion’s units participating in the liberation of France in 1944-1945. It opens to the public on April 15 and continues on view through August 30, 2015.

The 1st Foreign Regiment (1er RE) of the French Foreign Legion organized the second year of the cross-country run open for legionnaires and officers from all of the Legion’s regiments, TRAIL 2014. See the official video…
Foreign Legion: Bastille Day Military Parade 2014
On July 14, the Bastille Day Military Parade (Défilé militaire du 14 Juillet) passed down the Champs-Elysées, Paris. As always, the Foreign Legion took part in the parade. See the legionnaires from the Foreign Legion Music Band and the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG), accompanied by the Foreign Legion Pioneers, marching together down the street in front of the French president.

Camerone 2014 in Aubagne and Calvi
On April 30, 2014, the French Foreign Legion celebrated the 151st anniversary of the Battle of Camerone. This day is known as “Camerone Day” (Camerone); it commemorates the Legion’s bravery and a determination of fighting to the death. It is the most important day for the legionnaires.
