A few days ago, the French Foreign Legion published a video with rare images from 1934, showing the newly opened Home of Legionnaire (Maison du Légionnaire), a retirement home for Legion veterans. The home is located in Auriol, some 6 miles (10 km) northeast of Aubagne, the Foreign Legion headquarters situated close to Marseille, in Southern France.
Foreign Legion: 2021 Camerone Day
On April 30, as every year since 1931, the French Foreign Legion celebrated their most important holiday, Camerone Day. This day marks the anniversary of the Battle of Camerone, the famed action which occurred in Mexico 158 years ago, in 1863.
2e REP: 1st Company in New Caledonia 2021
Currently, legionnaires from the 1st Company of the French Foreign Legion’s 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) are being deplyed to New Caledonia, an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean, situated some 750 miles (1,200 km) east of Australia.

2e REI: 2021 Ivory Coast and Djibouti

80 years ago: Father of the Legion died
80 years ago, on 16 April 1941, one of the most important persons of the French Foreign Legion passed away. Nicknamed as the “Father of the Legion”, he created a modern institution and widely raised public awareness of his legionnaires. His time at the head of the Foreign Legion was known as the Legion’s golden age. However, the Second World War and his damaged health stopped the enormous work dedicated to the legionnaires and veterans.

2021 Foreign Legion Exhibition in Poznan

2e REG: French Guiana 2020-2021

13e DBLE: First VBMR Griffons arrived
Between March 10 and 12, 2021, the 13th Foreign Legion Demi-Brigade (13e DBLE) received its first Multi-Role Armored Vehicles (VBMR), known as the Griffon. As part of the French Army’s 2019–2025 modernization program, these armored personnel carriers are intended to replace the aging VAB armored vanguard vehicles, which have been in service since 1976.
