Foreign Legion: 2017 Camerone Day
On April 30, 2017, the French Foreign Legion commemorated the 154th anniversary of the Battle of Camerone, the well-known and most important event in its history. In late February and early March 2017, the Liaison & Direct Action Reconnaissance Platoon (Section de Liaison et de Reconnaissance Offensive, SLRO) from the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) conducted a military exercise simulating a reasearch mission to capture a leader of a terrorist group.

On August 24, 2016, French Army General Bertrand H. de La Chesnais visited French soldiers, including legionnaires, at Nice, France. Legionnaires from 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) and 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) are patrolling the city as part of Operation Sentinelle. The city is located in the Côte d’Azur area on the south east coast of France on the Mediterranean Sea. French Foreign Legion: New units establishing
While the year of 2014 was marked by reorganization of the French Army with reducing its personnel and several unit dissolutions, including combat units within the Foreign Legion (e.g. 5th Squadron of 1er REC, 5th Company of 2e REI), the current year of 2015 is significant by reverse policy actions – increasing personnel serving in the French Army and (re-)creating the new combat units.

1er REG training in Djibouti 2015
While part of the 3rd Company (3e CIE) of the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) is being placed in French Polynesia in the Pacific now, the 1st Platoon of 3e CIE moved to Djibouti (a country located northwest of Somalia, in the Horn of Africa) on its four-month-long mission, at the end of 2014.
1er REG: Operation Harpie in French Guiana 2015
As stated in Foreign Legion Operations of December 2014, legionnaires from the 1st Company of the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) are being placed in French Guiana (South America) now. In January 2015, they participated in Operation Harpie.
