In mid-December 2025, a series of Challenges de Noël (Christmas Challenges) took place in regiments of the French Foreign Legion, both in France and abroad. These anual events are friendly competitions between companies of the same regiment. They are not about winning alone, but about building fighting spirit, teamwork, and unit cohesion. For hard-working legionnaires, the challenges also bring a moment of fun and relaxation. They are usually organized shortly before Christmas.
Noël (Christmas Eve) is the second most important holiday in the Legion. On this day, the whole regiment comes together, including all officers and the regimental commander, for a shared dinner and the exchange of gifts. After the meal, young legionnaires perform short humorous sketches to entertain everyone and keep the tradition alive. Christmas traditions in the Legion also include the making of nativity scenes, often created in a distinct Legion style and reflecting the unit’s identity, history, or current mission.
