Since April 2022, a detachment from the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI) has been in California at the invitation of the U.S. Marines from the 2d Marine Division. The legionnaires train alongside their American counterparts.

Foreign Legion: 2022 Camerone Day
On April 30, 2022, the French Foreign Legion commemorated the 159th anniversary of the Battle of Camerone, a crucial moment in their history. The battle is portrayed as a pure example of bravery and the determination to fight to the finish. Camerone Day is therefore the most important day of the year for all current or former legionnaires. After two years of involuntary banning, the French Foreign Legion was once again allowed to commemorate the event publicly. See 2022 Camerone Day images from several Legion regiments.
140 years ago: A fierce battle with local rebels in North Africa
In North Africa in late April 1882, in a borderland territory which separated Algeria from Morocco, a surveying expedition under the command of Captain de Castries was returning from survey work at the Chott Tigri depression. Escorted by two companies of the Legion, the column was attacked by more than 2,000 local insurgents. The escort, whose strength was no more than 350 men, was fighting one against six. At the end of the seven-hour battle, two officers and 49 legionnaires had been killed.

2e REI: Infernal Run 2022
In late April 2022, another edition of the Infernal Run took place at Nimes, Southern France. The event has been organized by the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI) since 2014. The run was 8 miles (12 km) long and consisted of various natural or artificial obstacles.
1er REG: Future TIOR supervisors 2022
In April 2022, a hand-to-hand combat supervisor training course took place withing the military camp of the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG). It’s goal was to provide the regiment with new hand-to-hand combat supervisors.
