61st Anniversary of the Fall of Dien Bien Phu
On May 7, 1954, after 55 days of fierce fighting, the major battle between French troops and Ho Chi Minh’s Viet Minh soldiers was terminated. The battle occurred in the valley of Dien Bien Phu, in northern Vietnam, and signaled the end of French influence in Southeast Asia. Thousands of legionnaires were involved in the struggle and many of them died…
Camerone Day 2015
On 30 April 2015, the French Foreign Legion commemorated the 152nd anniversary of the Battle of Camerone. This day is known as Camerone Day (Camerone), the most important day for the Legion and its legionnaires. See the videos from 1er RE, 2e REI and 2e REG.

Legionnaires from the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI) of Nimes conducted an amphibious landing exercise at Port Pothuau of Hyères, the oldest resort on the French Riviera in southeastern France.

Another Infernal Run event was held on 27 March 2015, organized by the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI) near Nimes, its garrison. Hundreds of legionnaires from 2e REI, 1er REC, 1er RE, COMLE (Foreign Legion Command) and GRLE (Foreign Legion Recruiting Group) participated in.

In early April, legionnaires from the 1st Company of the French Foreign Legion’s 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) jumped over the Salvador Pass of northern Niger, on the Niger’s border with Libya and Algeria, in the deep Sahara.

2e REI: Eight legionnaires being naturalized
Eight legionnaires from the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI) were naturalized during a ceremony which took place in the Hall of Honour of the regiment’s Command company, on April 10.
New Home of Legionnaire in Auriol
A new building for the Home of Legionnaire (La Maison du légionnaire) was built in Auriol. The new building was named after Roux de Bezieux, a former legionnaire and a main donor. An inaugural ceremony took place on March 31, 2015.

2e REP: Great photos of legionnaires in the Sahara of Niger
The 1st Company of the French Foreign Legion’s 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) has been based in Madama, a new French forward operating base located in the land of nowhere in north-eastern Niger, near the Libyan-Algerian border, deep in the heart of Sahara. In February 2015, a well-known French reporter-photographer Thomas Goisque spent some time with legionnaires there and made hundreds of great images.
