1er REC: Get to know the regiment’s new Commando Training Center

As informed earlier in June, the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC), currently the only Foreign Legion cavalry regiment, opened their new Commando Training Center (CIAC) this May, near Marseille. See a detailed, fresh presentation video.

2021 Bastille Day Military Parade

This Wednesday marked Bastille Day, the French National Day of the 14th July. As usually, a military parade occurred in Paris that day. While the previous year was the parade significantly reduced, due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the popular event was back to normal this year. As always, the French Foreign Legion was represented.

1er REC: 2021 Commando Training Center

In late May 2021, the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC), the only cavalry unit currently serving within the French Foreign Legion, opened its new commando training center. The first course took place there between May 16 and 28. See the images.

1er REC+1er REG: Visit from General Lardet

In late October 2020, the French Foreign Legion’s commander-in-chief, General Alain Lardet, came to visit the cavalrymen from the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) at their Camp Carpiagne near Marseille and combat engineers from the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) at their base in Laudun.

1er REC: Complete again after 11 months

At Camp Carpiagne in early September 2020, the officers and legionnaires of the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC), the French Foreign Legion’s only cavalry unit, attended a regimental gathering to celebrate their regained unity, after 11 months of deployments.

Operation Barkhane: Immersion in the three-border region

1er REC: Activities for 3rd ESC and ECL in France in June 2020

While the vast majority of the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) has been currently deployed to Mali in West Africa since this February for at least four months, there are two squadrons which remain in France, at the regiment’s Camp Carpiagne near Marseille.
