The only cavalry unit currently serving within the French Foreign Legion, 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC), released a video to commemorate the upcoming 100th anniversary of the regiment.
The 1er REC decided to make March 2021 the official date to celebrate its 100 years since its creation (even though the regiment was officially created in October 1922, by a ministry decision from June 1922). However, in North Africa’s Tunisia in March 1921, two freshly established mounted squadrons formed a “detachment of the Legion” with Lieutenant Colonel Perret as its commanding officer. And that’s the moment the current 1er REC sees as the beginning of its famous history.
Although the video doesn’t contain old images to illustrate the main historical events the unit has participated in, it is still a well arranged work. So, enjoy it.
