2e REP: 4th Company in Guiana in 2025

Recently, in early February 2025, a short-term deployment (MCD) to South America started for a company of the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP). The Legion paratroopers would stay there for four months.

The 2e REP men from the 4th Company, comprising snipers and sabotage and destruction specialists, were assigned to the 9th Marine Infantry Regiment (9e RIMa) and formed its 2nd Infantry Company (composed of rotational elements). This overseas regiment is stationed in Cayenne, the administrative centre of French Guiana, which lies about 37 miles (60 km) southeast of Kourou. This is the garrison of the Legion’s well-known 3rd Foreign Infantry Regiment (3e REI). Both units maintain order and the French presence in the region and crack down on foreign illegal gold diggers in the jungle (Operation Harpie).

Currently, another Legion company is deployed nearby: the 2nd Company 1er REG in Martinique.

The 2e REP and 1er REG legionnaires also met in New Caledonia. However, their four-month mission is about to end there.

A year ago, in early 2024, it was the 1st Company 2e REP which began its deployment to French Guiana.
