Legionnaires from the French Foreign Legion continue to deploy abroad, also in late 2024. Recently, detachments from the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) and the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) have deployed to New Caledonia in the Pacific, not far from Australia.
Last Friday, on October 25, a military ceremony took place at Camp Broche in Plum, in the South Province of New Caledonia’s main island, to officially welcome the newly arriving legionnaires. They were assigned to the New Caledonia Pacific Marine Infantry Regiment (RIMaP-NC). The 2e REP men, mainly represented by the 2nd “Mountain” Company, have formed the regiment’s Parachute Company (COMPARA). Their colleagues from the 1er REG, supported by the cavalrymen of the 1st Spahi Regiment (1er RS), have formed the Combined Arms Company (COMIA). Both companies are stationed at Camp Broche. The legionnaires should stay in New Caledonia for four months.
