In early October 2023, the 3rd Squadron of the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) arrived in Djibouti, Horn of Africa. The squadron would carry out its tasks there for the next four months.
DLEM: 2023 DIO Training in Madagascar
From September 12 to October 2, 2023, a detachment of the Foreign Legion Detachment in Mayotte (DLEM) provided a military training mission for the graduates of the military academy and the national school for non-commissioned officers in Antsirabe, Madagascar, a large island in the Indian Ocean located south-east of Mayotte.

1er REG: 2023 EFG Patrol Boats
After a year of testing, the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) is now equipped with new patrol boats called EFG (Embarcation Fluviale du Génie), or River Engineering Boat. See the video.
4e RE: 2023 Foreign Legion Half Marathon
In Castelnaudary (Southern France) on October 7, 2023, the 45th Foreign Legion Half Marathon took place. The annual race is organized by the 4th Foreign Regiment (4e RE) in this Foreign Legion training regiment’s garrison town, and held on the first Saturday in October. The event includes a half marathon (13 miles / 21 km) and 10K race. Its first edition took place in 1977.

A new part of the DOCUMENTS series. A very rare document is presented here; it is the oldest French Foreign Legion-related document currently available on our website. It was issued as early as 1847 to a Belgian legionnaire at the conclusion of his honest and faithful service in North Africa.

2e REP: 2023 Saint Michael’s Day
