Major Roso left the Foreign Legion

On December 16, Major Ivan Roso, a 58 years old legionnaire, President of the non-commissioned officers of the Foreign Legion (Président des sous-officiers de la Légion étrangère), left this elite military unit after long 36 years of service.

Major Ivan Roso was born in Yugoslavia in 1955. Before his enlistment in the Foreign Legion in 1977, he had played football (soccer) as a goalkeeper in the team of Osijek, the fourth largest city in today’s Croatia. His brother Ante, having also served in the Legion for a long period, became general in the Croatian Army during the Yugoslav Wars in the 1990s.

Major Ivan Roso served in the 3e REI, 2e REI, 13e DBLE, 5e RE, 1er RE and 1er REG. Thereafter, he joined Foreign Legion Command (Commandement de la Légion Étrangère, COMLE), to serve as president of all the Legion’s NCOs.

With the Foreign Legion, Major Roso did a large number of missions and operations around the world.
