Between October 2-20, a multinational airborne joint exercise, Swift Response 2017 – Phase II (17-2), occurred in Germany. Legionnaires from the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP), the only airborne unit of the French Foreign Legion, participated in.
Last weekend marks the culmination of the commemoration of the 50 years the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) has already spent in Corsica. The 2e REP also celebrated its regimental holiday, Saint Michael Day. French Minister of the Armed Forces participated in the celebrations and decorated the 2e REP’s flag.

On April 30, 2017, the French Foreign Legion commemorated the 154th anniversary of the Battle of Camerone, the well-known and most important event in its history. In late February and early March 2017, the 5th Company (specialized in desert warfare) of the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) conducted an exercise in Corsica to optimize operational readiness of its legionnaires.
The year of 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the installation of the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) at Calvi, Corsica. The regiment moved to Corsica from Bou Sfer, Algeria in 1967. On March 18, 2017, the celebrations of the anniversary started. They will continue until September.
