Between October 2-20, a multinational airborne joint exercise, Swift Response 2017 – Phase II (17-2), occurred in Germany. Legionnaires from the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP), the only airborne unit of the French Foreign Legion, participated in.
Swift Response 17-2 took place at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center (JMRC) of the U.S., based in Hohenfels of Bavaria, Germany. About 6,000 troops from 10 national forces (Bosnia-Herzegovina, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, the United Kingdom + the U.S.) were involved in. According to officials, the exercise was focused on the ability of allied airborne forces to quickly and effectively respond to crisis situations as an interoperable multi-national team.
Para-legionnaires mainly from HQ Company, 1st Company, Military Support Company (CA, ex-CEA) or Parachute Commando Group (GCP) of the 2e REP were training alongside British paratroopers from the Second Battalion, Parachute Regiment (2 PARA) and U.S. paratroopers from the 173rd Airborne Brigade.
The exercise featured airborne troops and equipment drops, air assault operations or non-combatant evacuation operations.
