On November 17, 2016, the Ariane 5 rocket successfully took off from the European Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. It launched four Galileo satellites into orbit to support Europe’s own satellite navigation system. Legionnaires from the 3rd Foreign Infantry Regiment (3e REI), the Foreign Legion’s regiment based in Guiana, protected the launch.
A few days ago, the French Foreign Legion launched an official video showing general Raymond from the US Air Force Space Command (AFSPC) during his visit to the Guiana Space Center (Centre spatial guyanais, CSG) located near Kourou, French Guiana and protected by the 3rd Foreign Infantry Regiment (3e REI).
A very nice video from French Guiana. As noted in FFL December 2014 Operations, the Reconnaissance and Support Company (CEA) of the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI) was sent to serve in French Guiana for four months (09/14 – 01/15), on the so called Short Period Mission (Mission de Courte Durée, MCD).
