MLE: Foreign Legion Music Band in Paris
Yesterday, February 7, 2018, the Foreign Legion Music Band (MLE) performed an excellent concert in Paris, dedicated to the soldiers wounded during military operations and the families of those soldiers killed in action. The annual charitable concert is organized by the Military Governor of Paris. For its high prestige, the Foreign Legion Music Band was asked to be the main participant in this important event.
1er RE: Exercice Vaillant 2017
In early November, the 1st Foreign Regiment (1er RE) conducted its annual three-day military exercise called Vaillant. The exercise took place at Laudun (southeastern France) and administrative units’ legionnaires of the 1er RE were involved in.

In late October, the 1st Foreign Regiment (1er RE), the Motherhouse of the French Foreign Legion, celebrated the 55th anniversary of its placement at Aubagne, southern France.
85th anniversary: The worst accident in the Foreign Legion’s history
In Algeria (North Africa), 85 years ago, the worst accident in the history of the French Foreign Legion occurred. On September 14, 1932, a troop train was heading for Morocco, carrying a Legion battalion ready for fighting. In the afternoon, the train had derailed and fell into a ravine. Tens of legionnaires were killed, two hundreds of legionnaires were wounded.

Bastille Day Military Parade 2017
On the French national Day of the 14th July, called Bastille Day, a large military parade took place on the Champs-Elysées in Paris, as always. This year, the parade was open by US troops commemorating the 100th anniversary of the United States’ entry into the First World War. The French Foreign Legion also participated in, closing the parade of marching troops.
Foreign Legion: 2017 Camerone Day
On April 30, 2017, the French Foreign Legion commemorated the 154th anniversary of the Battle of Camerone, the well-known and most important event in its history. 4e RE: Remise de Képis blancs at Auriol
On December 13, 2016, French Foreign Legion volunteers from the 2nd Enlisted Volunteers Company (2CEV), 4th Foreign Regiment (4e RE) obtained their Képi blanc (White kepi) and became legionnaires in the Legionnaire’s Home of Auriol, southern France. See some nice images from the ceremony.

2016: 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Belloy-en-Santerre
On July 4, 2016, the Foreign Legion commemorated the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Belloy-en-Santerre. The battle, which occurred on July 4, 1916 near the river Somme in the Picardy region of northern France, was part of the Battle of Somme, the largest battle of the First World War on the Western Front. That day, hundreds of legionnaires were killed within a few hours, including the American poet Alan Seeger.
