In late July 2025, the 4th Squadron of the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) became the new 1st Company of the 5th Foreign Regiment (5e RE) in Mayotte, Indian Ocean.
On July 25, 2025, the 3rd Foreign Infantry Regiment (3e REI) of the French Foreign Legion ensured perimeter security and area protection during the successful launch of the European Vega-C rocket from the Guiana Space Center.
On July 14, 2025, units of the French Foreign Legion took part in regional ceremonies across France to mark the country’s national holiday, Bastille Day. Each regiment participated in local commemorative events held in the vicinity of their respective garrisons, in coordination with civil and military authorities. In some cases, Legion elements were also present at celebrations held outside their usual locations.
On July 14, 2025, the traditional military parade marking France’s national Bastille Day holiday was held along the iconic Champs-Élysées in Paris, an event that has been regularly organized in the French capital since 1880. Four detachments of the Foreign Legion participated.
A new training program has recently started at the 4th Foreign Regiment (4e RE) in Castelnaudary, southern France. Known as the Stage Drone, this course is designed to train drone operators.
