Major Gérald: Introducing the New 2025 French Army Push-Up Standards

In his new video, Major Gérald provides us with a detailed presentation of the the new push-up regulations introduced by the French Army in 2025. The popular French Foreign Legion senior NCO clearly explains the updated standards, demonstrating correct technique to help (future) legionnaires meet the new requirements.

These updated standards are part of the CCPM — short for Contrôle de la Condition Physique du Militaire — the French military’s official annual fitness tests. They directly affect a soldier’s career progression, assignments, and promotion opportunities.

One component of the CCPM tests is the General Physical Fitness Test (Contrôle de la condition physique générale, CCPG) which includes the push-up test (Capacité musculaire générale, CMG). As of February 2025, the method for performing push-ups during the test has been revised.

Assisting the major in this video is Senior Corporal Jeremy with extensive military experience and a distinguished background in combat sports. A long-serving member of the Foreign Legion and a champion in mixed martial arts (MMA), he demonstrates the new correct techniques required under the updated CCPM standards.

According to the current CCPG scoring system, French soldiers aged 18 to 21 must perform 45 properly executed push-ups to obtain full marks. Those aged 22 to 37 are required to complete 50 push-ups to reach the maximum score.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time Major Gérald has addressed the topic of the CCPM. In early 2021, he published an initial video introducing the push-up test. The current video builds upon that foundation, focusing specifically on the updated push-up execution standards introduced this year.
