What is the age limit for joining the French Foreign Legion exactly?

French Foreign Legion and the age requirements. Roughly once a week I receive e-mails asking me about the accurate age limit that can qualify/disqualify their authors for joining the French Foreign Legion. Is the age limit 17 or 18 years? Is the age limit 39 or 40 years? Which are the Foreign Legion age requirements? Help me, please!

The first accurate age limit for joining the Foreign Legion is 17 years and 6 months. In this case (you are not 18 or over 18 years old), parental consent or consent of your legal tutor (if you are an orphan for example) is required on a form available in French Gendarmeries in France, or in Embassies outside France.

The second accurate age limit for joining the Foreign Legion is 39 years and 6 months now. Which means to be 39 years, 6 months and 0 days old at the maximum when you are knocking on the Legion’s gate.
