This day marks the 32nd anniversary of the Mont Garbi accident. The 3rd February 1982 has been the most tragic day for the French Foreign Legion since the Battle of Dien Bien Phu of 1954. The accident happened in Djibouti, Africa; 29 members of the Legion, including a whole platoon of the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP), were killed.
Blue legionnaire: 2e REP trained with British Paras in Corsica
Yesterday, on January 26, 2014, the training exercise called Blue legionnaire, in which the Legion and British paratroopers were participating in, was officially finished. It took two weeks, since January 12. Another two-weeks long exercise between the same units, called Eagle Eyes, will be started in Corsica next week, on February 03.

2e REP and its exercise JURA 2013
On November 11, three companies (3rd, 4th and Command/Logistics) and one team of Commando Parachute Group (GCP) from the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) finished its week-long regimental exercise JURA 2013. The exercise took place just a few kilometers from Switzerland, in the Jura mountains of the Franche-Comté region, in eastern France, between 3rd and 10th of November 2013. See pics and video.
2e REP and Saint Michel Day 2013
On September 29, the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) of the French Foreign Legion celebrated Saint-Michel Day (La Fête de Saint-Michel). Saint-Michel is appreciated as the patron of paratroopers. See video.

2e REP and 1er REC colors were decorated
On July 11, 2013, the regimental colors of the Foreign Legion’s 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) and 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) were decorated by Army General Bertrand Ract-Madoux, commander of the French Armed Forces, at Les Invalides in Paris. The regiments also participated at the Prises d’Armes military ceremony in the garden of the French Senate two days later. See a few images and videos.
35th anniversary of the Battle of Kolwezi
On May 19, the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) of the French Foreign Legion will remind the 35th anniversary of the Battle of Kolwezi. On May 19, 1978, the 2e REP was dropped on Kolwezi, a city in Katanga Province in the south of Zaire (today’s the Democratic Republic of the Congo) to rescuing more than 2,000 European hostages held by rebels.

Legionnaires of the 2nd company and Reconnaissance and Support Company (Compagnie d’éclairage et d’appui, CEA) of the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) returned from Mali to their base at Calvi, Corsica on April 20th, 2013. See the official video launched just yesterday by the French Army.

2e REP in Mali: 2 months exactly!
Legionnaires of the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) have been operating in Mali for 2 months exactly. Since January 28, when they jumped on Timbuktu. In these days, the legionnaires are operating in the Adrar mountains in northeastern Mali. They are patrolling and searching hideouts of Islamic rebels in this area. See some images of their work…
Harold Vormezeele – a military funeral video
A military funeral for Harold Vormezeele, a legionnaire of the 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) of the French Foreign Legion killed in Mali, took place in the National Residence of the Invalids (Les Invalides), Paris, on February 22.
