On July 14, the Bastille Day Military Parade (Défilé militaire du 14 Juillet) passed down the Champs-Elysées, Paris. As always, the Foreign Legion took part in the parade. See the legionnaires from the Foreign Legion Music Band and the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG), accompanied by the Foreign Legion Pioneers, marching together down the street in front of the French president.
Legionnaires preparing for the 14th July parade
Legionnaires from the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG), accompanied by legionnaires-pionners and the Foreign Legion Music Band from the 1st Foreign Regiment (1er RE) were participated in the preparations for the French main national event of July 14 at the Champs-Élysées avenue of Paris.
1er REG: Hannibal exercise
On April 9, the 6th Light Armoured Brigade (6e BLB, composed of three Legion regiments and two “regular” regiments) was participating in the Hannibal exercise. Its title refers to the well-known Punic Carthaginian military commander, who crossed the Pyrenees and the Alps into northern Italy during the Second Punic War. During that march, Hannibal crossed also the Rhône river in todays France. Legionnaires-engineers from the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG), while using their engineering facilities, helped simulate Hannibal’s crossing of the river in modern conditions. More than 200 military vehicles of the 6e BLB participated in this operation.
Regimental march of the 1er REG
Between 16th and 17th of January 2014, during a heavy rain, legionnaires from all companies of the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG), did the traditional regimental march to train their military and topography skills.
1er REG’s Combat Engineer Divers trained in Savoie
During the first half of December 2013, legionnaires from Engineer Combat Divers (Plongeurs de combat du génie, PCG), a unit previously known as DINOPS, were training on Lake Bourget, in the Savoie region, France. The PCG is part of the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG).
Legionnaires-sappers celebrated Sainte Barbe 2013
During the first week of December, the legionnaires – sapeurs (military engineers) from the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) and 2nd Foreign Engineer Regiment (2e REG) of the French Foreign Legion, celebrated its patron, Sainte Barbe (Saint Barbara).
2e REI: Dissolution of the Serval 2 Brigade
Last week, on November 27, the Combined Arms Brigade Serval 2 (Brigade Interarmes Serval 2), having been serving during the Operation in Mali this year, was officially dissolved in the headquarters of the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI) in Nimes, southern France.
