In early March 2025, the legionnaires of the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) participated in the CNEF commando training course in Martinique in the Caribbean Sea.
The 1er REG combat engineers from the 2nd Company have been deployed to Martinique since late January. Over the next four months, they will reinforce the French troops in the region and serve as the 1st Company 3rd Marine Infantry Regiment (33e RIMa) which is stationed in Fort-de-France, the capital of Martinique.
During their early phase of their deployment, the legionnaires participated in the commando training course of the Aquatic & Forest Training Center (CNEF), a key training facility for the French Armed Forces in the Caribbean. Established in 1962 and spread across three sites, the CNEF prepares soldiers for operations in tropical and maritime environments. The center is operated by the 33e RIMa.
