In September and October 2019, for four weeks, the legionnaires from the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) of the French Foreign Legion were training in Spain, alongside their comrades-sappers from the Spanish Legion. Both well-known Legions meet together from time to time, to participate in joint exercises, as partners within the NATO alliance.
13e DBLE: Exercise with Spanish Legion 2017
In March 2017, the 13th Demi-Brigade of the Foreign Legion (13e DBLE) of the French Foreign Legion conducted an exercise with Spanish legionnaires (legionarios) from the X Bandera “Millán Astray”, Tercio 4, Spanish Legion at Camp Larzac, the home to the 13e DBLE in an inhospitable part of southern France.

As previously mentioned, Exrcise Iberian Star 2014 took part in Spain in November 2014. Spanish legionnaires from Spanish Legion’s VIII Bandera (8th Battalion) and French legionnaires from the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI) were involved in this exercise, together with Welsh and Irish soldiers from the British Army. IBERIAN STAR 2014: French and Spanish legionnaires trained together
In the second half of last month, November 2014, Exercise IBERIAN STAR 2014 took place on the Chinchilla Training Area in the province of Albacete, southern Spain. Legionnaires of the French Foreign Legion and the Spanish Legion (former Spanish Foreign Legion), together with British soldiers were involved in the exercise.
