On October 4, 2025, the 47th edition of the Semi-Marathon de la Légion Étrangère took place in Castelnaudary, a town in southern France. This prestigious annual event, free and open to runners of all genders, attracted nearly 1,000 participants for the half marathon and 300 more for the 6.25 mi (10 km) race. As usual, it was organized by the 4th Foreign Regiment (4e RE), the school of the French Foreign Legion.
The half-marathon course, measuring 13 miles (21.1 km), featured a challenging route through the town, with runners navigating bridges, stairs, and scenic paths along the canal. The race began at 9:20 AM, with participants of all ages and backgrounds – both military and civilian – joining in. The top finishers of the half-marathon were led by Adjutant Benoit of the 1st Chasseurs Parachute Regiment (1er RCP), with a time of 1:12:37, followed by Corporal Tanguy of the 2nd Foreign Engineer Regiment (2e REG) at 1:15:20, and Sergeant Arthur (4e RE) at 1:17:24. For the 10 km, Staff Sergeant Ali Redouane of the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) claimed first.
Colonel Delhumeau, commander of the 4th Foreign Regiment, described the race as “a true legionnaire’s half-marathon.” General Youchtchenko, commander of the French Foreign Legion, emphasized the importance of both physical endurance and cohesion, highlighting the personal significance the event holds for legionnaires who have passed through Castelnaudary since 1976.
The event’s nearly record-breaking participation underscored its success as a celebration of both athleticism and military tradition, with all units of the Legion represented.
