2e REG: 2022 Saint Barbara Day

On December 8, 2022, the men of the 2nd Foreign Engineer Regiment (2e REG) celebrated 2022 Saint Barbara Day, their holiday. Saint Barbara (Sainte-Barbe in French) is known as the patron saint of French military engineers and firefighters.

Despite heavy rain and inclement weather, the 2e REG legionnaires gathered at the parade ground of the Quartier Maréchal Koenig, their camp located near Saint Christol, in Southern France. Around them, many representatives of the state, elected officials of the republic including mayors of the nearby communes, as well as former legionnaires. All of them came to celebrate Saint Barbara Day.

During the ceremony, fresh legionnaires who had finished the several-week regimental instruction after their arrival from basic training in Castelnaudary, were awarded the regimental fourragere and the badge, and became officially part of the 2e REG. The ceremony was presided by General Alain Lardet, the current commander-in-chief of the Legion.

Following the ceremony, two legionnaires obtained the naturalization papers from the hands of Mr. Labro, mayor of the Sault commune, and thus became French citizens.
