The 5th Company, 2e REI trained at Camp Canjuers, the largest military camp in Western Europe, located in southeastern France. The 2e REI men were supported by an engineering platoon + a medical team from the 1er REG. They were supervised by instructors from DAO (Operational Assistance Detachment) from the 1er RCA (Chasseurs d’Afrique), a French cavalry regiment operating the camp. At the same camp, also the 2nd + 5th Squadrons, 1er REC took part in their training before deployment.
As for the Foreign Legion combat engineers from the 1st Company, 1er REG, they moved to Camp Valdahon in eastern France, the home to the 13th Engineer Regiment (13e RG). The legionnaires trained there alongside their French colleagues of the 6th Light Armored Brigade (6e BLB).
