In March 2019, legionnaires of the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) deployed to French military camps at Canjuers and Larzac to maintain their operational readiness at the highest possible level.
A combined task force (SGTIA) of the 2nd Squadron, 1er REC supported by their comrades from the 1st Company, 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG) were the first elements to inaugurate OPERA, the freshly modernized Joint Live-Fire Training Center (Centre d’Entraînement au Tir Interarmes, CETIA) of Camp Canjuers, situated in the Var department of southeastern France. After four years of works, OPERA is said to be the largest live-fire training center in Europe now.
Meanwhile at Larzac in the Aveyron department of southern France, legionnaires of the 5th Squadron, 1er REC trained at the local French military camp (and home to the 13th Demi-Brigade of the Foreign Legion – 13e DBLE).
