A legionnaire receives standing ovation in Canada

A legionnaire, Senior-Corporal from the MLE, received standing ovation during the Québec City International Festival of Military Bands (FIMMQ) in Canada, while playing Auld Lang Syne. Really amazing performance… And YES, even this fantastic musician has passed the hard four-months basic training of the Foreign Legion in Castel.

Vaillant 2013: Exercise of the 1er RE

Two hundred legionnaires from the 1st Foreign Regiment (1er RE) of the French Foreign Legion have passed their traditional November’s military exercise called Vaillant (Vailant). The training took place at villages of Correns and Le Val in southeastern France, between 19th and 21st of November 2013.

Trail of the 1st Foreign Regiment (1er RE). The first year of a 19 km (11,8 miles) long run with 1100 meters (3600 feets) of elevation difference took place in the country around Aubagne, the homebase and selection center of the French Foreign Legion, on October 16. See some pics and video.

Music band of the Foreign Legion 2013 official video

A nice, modern presentation of the Music band of the French Foreign Legion (partly in english) released just a few weeks ago. The band is a traditional part and a symbol of the Foreign Legion, based in Aubagne in the 1er RE. It has already been established in 1832, comprised exclusively of legionnaires. They have to go through the basic traing in Castelnaudary as the other legionnaires before being approved to the band. Today, the band is travelling and representing the Legion around the world.

Jubilee: 1er RE has been in Aubagne for 50 years

On December 7, 2012 almost 400 legionnaires celebrated an anniversary of the 1st Foreign Regiment (1er RE). The oldest regiment of the French Foreign Legion has already been stationed in Aubagne (a town in southern France, near Marseille) for 50 years. It moved there from Sidi-bel-Abbès, Algeria in 1962.
