1er REC: 2024 Foreign Legion Triathlon | French Foreign Legion Information

On October 3, 2024, another edition of the Foreign Legion Triathlon was held near Marseille, Southern France. The still relatively new (and not so famed) race is organized by the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment (1er REC) and attended by non-commissioned officers.

This year, over 150 competitors from different Foreign Legion regiments, the Marseille Naval Fire Battalion (BMPM, a French armed forces unit), and the local military academy participated. As usual, the triathlon took place between Cassis, a coastal commune situated east of Marseille, and Camp Caripagne, the base of the 1er REC.

The participants, individuals or teams, had to swim 750 m (820 yards), ride 20 km (12.5 miles) on a bike, and run 5 km (3 miles).
