2e REP: GCP trained with helicopters in Corsica

The legionnaires from the Parachute Commando Group (Groupement des Commandos Parachutistes, GCP) of the Foreign Legion’s 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment (2e REP) trained together with SA 330 Puma (Super Puma) helicopters from the Solenzara Helicopter Squadron (Escadron d’hélicoptères 01.044 Solenzara, EH 1/44) in Corsica last week.

During the 26th and 27th of January 2015, more than 30 legionnaires from the 2e REP and also the members of GCP were involved in an exercise to improve their multi-task operation and tactical skills. The 30 non-commando legionnaires jumped from a helicopter over the drop zone next to their military base, located near the town of Calvi, with attached gaine (a combat equipment pack). The fully equipped commandos trained descending from helicopter via rope or jumping over the sea without a parachute, while wearing neoprene. The EH 1/44 trained also the material transportation in co-ordination with 2e REP legionnaires.
