See a short video showing young legionnaires of the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI) who are trained in close combat.
The C4 (High Intensity Combats’ Hand-to-hand Combat) course is the French Army’s close combat training technique. It is an updated, more aggressive and offensive form of the older TIOR close combat system, developed by the French commandos. The C4’s objective is to teach a soldier to react effectively to a short-range engagement (up to 5 yards/meters).
The young legionnaires going through the course in the short video are members of the FTS instruction platoon. Each young legionnaire, who has finished the initial instruction in Castelnaudary (4e RE) and was assigned to the 2e REI, has to go first to the FTS for a usual two-month basic training before he is assigned to a combat company.
