Miss France 2024, Eve Gilles, visited Mayotte in late August, including the military base of the former Foreign Legion Detachment in Mayotte (DLEM), a unit which right now is transforming into a new regiment, the 5th Foreign Regiment (5e RE).

As part of her visit to Mayotte for the Miss Mayotte election, Miss France 2024 met the legionnaires of the newly forming 5th Foreign Regiment. At their military base, Quartier Cabaribère in Dzaoudzi, Miss Gilles was welcomed by the regiment’s second-in-command, on August 31, 2024. He first introduced her to the unit and its missions. Thereafter, a delegation of officers, non-commissioned officers, and legionnaires gave Miss France an insight into the specifics of the Foreign Legion.

Attending the certification ceremony for the toughening course at the regiment’s Maritime Familiarization & Training Center (CIAN), she was also able to witness the involvement of legionnaires in day-to-day operational preparation on the territory of Mayotte.
