Watch images from Mayotte, a French overseas department in the Indian Ocean, where the Foreign Legion Detachment in Mayotte (DLEM) commemorated the 161st anniversary of the 1863 Battle of Camerone.
The celebrations took place in the twin communes Dzaoudzi-Labattoir. After a military ceremony and a parade in Labattoir, the main festivities – including the Miss Kepi Blanc Contest – were held in Dzaoudzi, the HQ of the DLEM.
In fact, it was the last Camerone Day for the DLEM. This July, the unit is going to be transformed into a new 5th Foreign Regiment (5e RE).
