13e DBLE: Exercise Ares 2024

See nice images from a military exercise, Exercise Ares, that took place in the Aveyron Department, Southern France, in late March 2024. About 600 legionnaires of the 13th Foreign Legion Demi-Brigade (13e DBLE) took part.

The purpose of the exercise, which lasted from March 24 to 28 and was organized in the same department where the 13e DBLE is stationed, was to train for high-intensity combat, against a modern, structured, organized army equipped with equipment similar to that of the French army, including artillery, drones, attack aircraft, and special recon platoons. Based on a realistic exercise scenario, the exercise took place in populated areas (a popular style of military training in France) between Villefranche de Rouergue, Decazeville, and Rodez.

Two-week preparations for the exercise were carried out at Camp Caylus, one of the main French military training area. Then the legionnaires deployed to the towns of Baraqueville and Naucelle where the first part of the exercise took place (March 24-25).

On March 28, a hundred legionnaires staged a mock attack on a stadium in Rodez to train along with the gendarmerie, firefighters, and the police in case of an attack during the 2024 Olympics (starting in late July in Paris).

A detachment of the Spanish Legion participated, as well as about 40 armored vehicles of the regiment.
