1er REG: 2021 FTS Instruction Platoon

In July and August 2021, an initial regimental instruction was organized for fresh legionnaires who recently joined the 1st Foreign Engineer Regiment (1er REG), after their four-month basic training in Castelnaudary, school of the Foreign Legion.

After their arrival in the regiment, the fresh legionnaires are sent to the Instruction Platoon (FTS), led by a senior NCO or a lieutenant. Usually within four to eight weeks, the legionnaires are trained in all basic military skills, as shooting with firearms, throwing grenades, outdoor combat tactics, urban warfare tactics, giving first aid, etc. Physical training is not forgotten either. This applies to all regiments the fresh legionnaires can be assigned to.

In the 1er REG, there are also some specific skills required for an engineering unit. For example, be able to build a defensive position.

After having finished their FTS, the legionnaires join their respective companies.
