On Friday, January 26, 2024, an honor detachment of the French Foreign Legion represented the French Army during the 75th Republic Day Parade that took place at the Kartavya Path in New Delhi, India. Along with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, French President Emmanuel Macron attended the ceremony as a special guest.
The two countries keep strong ties. While an honor detachment of the Indian Army participated in the 2023 Bastille Day Parade and Prime Minister Modi was in Paris as a special guest of President Macron, their role changed this Friday. And this time, the Foreign Legion was honored to represent France’s armed forces during the parade in India’s capital.
The Legion honor detachment was composed of the Music Band, led by Captain Khourda, and the 4th Company, 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI), led by Captain Noel.
