2e REI: Le Tour de France 2019

On July 23, 2019, the 16th stage of the famous Tour de France, an annual three-week bicycle race held in France, started and also finished in Nimes. A city in the Occitanie region of southern France with many Roman Empire monuments. And the garrison town of the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI), the longest-serving regiment of the Foreign Legion.

The majority of the regiment is currently deployed across France (to participate in Operation Sentinelle to protect sensitive points) and overseas. The 4th Company, 2e REI being at Camp of Garrigues at the time, a military camp nearby Nimes, interrupted their training and attended the well-known bicycle race while wearing their sacred white kepis. By the way, later that afternoon, the racers went past the Caserne Colonel de Chabrières, the barracks of the 2e REI, just a few minutes before passing the finish line.
