Legion to recruit 1,700 candidates in 2017

The French Foreign Legion will recruit 1,700 candidates also in the year of 2017, according to General Hervé Wattecamps, the Chief of the French Army human resources direction (DRHAT). The Foreign Legion has already recruited 1,700 candidates in 2016, contrary to some 950 candidates recruited between 2013-15.

On January 18, 2017, during his visit to the 4th Foreign Regiment (4e RE), the training unit of the Legion garrisoned in Castelnaudary (southern France), while inspecting the initial instruction of enlisted volunteers (at the farm of 1st Company), General Wattecamps confirmed this information. Thereafter, he also made inspection of a medical course for future legionnaires-specialists.

General added he wants to ensure that the legionnaires get the best level of training even in these ongoing difficult conditions. Currently, the training regiment needs more NCOs to train young volunteers.
