Andrew J. Mitchell: Pictorial History of the French Foreign Legion in Indochina, 1927-1945

In late September 2020, a new book dedicated to the Foreign Legion and its history was released: Pictorial History of the French Foreign Legion in Indochina, 1927-1945. This pictorial book is another interesting work of Andrew J. Mitchell, an Irish author, amateur historian and a well-known Foreign Legion badge collector.

A year ago, Andrew J. Mitchell released his very first work, The Tigers of Tonkin, where he mapped the initial history of the Legion in Indochina, until 1945. In his new book, Andrew offers a hundred of pages with original photos, largely coming from his rich private archive. They offer a rare insight into the Legion in Indochina and the seldom seen way of life of the legionnaire in Tonkin, between the late 1920s and 1945. Besides the photos covering the companies, maneuvers, barracks or auxiliary elements, the book contains also color plates of the insignia and uniforms, mainly of the original 5e REI, worn by the legionnaires in Indochina until the end of WWII.
