The French Foreign Legion Music band was invited to open the 2019 French Grand Prix, a Formula One motor race taking place at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, southeastern France on June 23, 2019. See some nice pictures.
The French Grand Prix, one of the oldest motor races in the world, returned to the Formula One calendar in 2018, after a ten-year absence. The famous Foreign Legion’s Music band (MLE) was honored to open officially this year’s race by playing La Marseillaise, the French hymn. The Music band also played a hymn of the winning team.
The Music band (consisting of more than 50 members) travel and play around the world to promote the Foreign Legion. These legionnaires has to pass the same tests and basic training as the other legionnaires. Most of them also served with a combat company before joining the band.
