On October 7, 2017, 4th Foreign Regiment (4e RE), the training unit of the French Foreign Legion, organized the 40th half marathon at Castelnaudary, its garrison town in southern France.
The Castelnaudary Half Marathon (21 km) has been organized annually since 1977. That year, the Foreign Legion Training Group (GILE), having been placed at then Caserne Lapasset of Castelnaudary ten months already, became the Foreign Legion Training Regiment (RILE). To link local inhabitants and their town to the new regiment, a tradition of joint event was launched. In the Castelnaudary Half Marathon, legionnaires from mainland France’s regiments and local civilians take part in.
In 2017, over 1,200 participants attended the run.
