2e REG: Exercise Cerces 2024

From November 19 to 27, 2024, more than 1,000 soldiers of France’s 27th Mountain Infantry Brigade (27e BIM) took to the field for Exercise Cerces 2024. For two weeks, they practiced maneuvering and firing, working on their combat skills in the complicated winter conditions. Among them were the legionnaires of the 2nd Foreign Engineer Regiment (2e REG), the “mountain” regiment of the Foreign Legion.

The annual winter exercise of the 27e BIM took place in the French Alps in Savoie, a department in Southeastern France. It serves as an important preparation for these French mountain troops, combining high-intensity training and tactical innovation, to ensure their readiness for future challenges.

During the exercise, 2e REG legionnaires demonstrated their ability to perform brigade tasks as a support element responsible for, among other things, ensuring the movement of troops and their equipment in combat conditions. Therefore, they built a (portable, pre-fabricated) Bailey bridge to cross the Chéran River, while carrying out mine clearance and assault operations.

In the official video below, the 2e REG legionnaires are seen from 0:50 to 2:30.
