On November 10, 2020, General Alain Lardet, the commander-in-chief of the French Foreign Legion (COMLE), officially visited the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment (2e REI), the longest-serving regiment of the Legion at its military base in Nimes.
General Lardet was appointed to his position in this August. The reason for visiting the 2e Etranger was his willing to meet the men and get to know the particularities of this modern motorized infantry unit.
General Alain Lardet started his military career with the 2e REP (1993-2001) and participated in nine deployments with this regiment, in Africa and ex-Yugoslavia. He returned to the 2e REP in 2007, for two years. Later, he took command of the 3e REI in French Guiana (2011-13).
