4e RE: 2020 Christmas at the school of the French Foreign Legion in Castelnaudary

See 2020 Christmas nativity scenes made by enlisted volunteers and legionnaires during their basic training or advanced instruction within the 4th Foreign Regiment (4e RE), the Legion’s training school based in Castelnaudary, southern France. As every year, for all enlisted volunteers and fresh legionnaires from the three basic training companies, it was their very first Christmas in the Foreign Legion.

The Christmas is the second most important holiday within the French Foreign Legion. On Christmas Eve, every man remains together with his brothers in arms, from the commanding General to the freshest enlisted volunteer. This day is marked by presenting Christmas crèches (nativity scenes) self-made by each Legion platoon, and by a regimental joint evening meal accompanied by distributing Christmas presents among troops and performing Christmas “sketches” by young legionnaires for the whole regiment.

The 4e RE, taking over history and the traditions of the 4th Foreign Infantry Regiment (1920-64), has commemorated quietly its 100 years in November 2020, because of the COVID-19 restrictions. Nevertheless, the basic and advanced instructions continue without changes and thus the legionnaires of the “4” had the chance on 24 December to distinguish themselves with their crèches… See for yourselves.
